Shepherd - Mary Kirkpatrick

Mrs. Mary Shepherd, whose death occurred at her home in Crawfordsville on the 13th, was very sad to many here. She has always lived here until the last few years and she had many warm friends here who will miss her, but she was a good woman and has passed from this sad and suffering world to a home in heaven. Our loss is her gain. She always had a kind word for everybody, although she suffered a great deal. -s

Mrs. John Thomas Shepherd, aged 55 years, died Monday morning about 6 o’clock at her home on West Main Street, after an illness extending over a period of some five years.

Mrs. Shepherd’s maiden name was Mary Kirkpatrick, she being a daughter of the late John Kirkpatrick, of Sugar Grove. She was married to J. T. Shepherd shortly after the war and he with five children, four daughters and one son, survive to mourn her loss.

Mrs. Shepherd was a life long Methodist and her character most faithfully portrayed the Christian graces. A most estimable woman, her life was for good not only in her home, but in the community in which she lived. During her three years’ residence in Crawfordsville, she made many friends who united with those at Sugar Grove in deploring her death.

Short services were held at the residence on Tuesday morning at 9 o’clock, after which the remains were taken to Sugar Grove Chapel where the funeral was conducted by Dr. Tucker and Rev. J. G. Stephens, with interment at the Sugar Grove Cemetery. -s
